About our rebate program

City of Canning residents can claim rebates on the purchase of solar panels, reusable nappies, reusable sanitary items, reusable incontinence products, composting and worm farming equipment as well as repairs on a range of products. All rebates are provided to help making it more afforable to go green. Sustainable products may cost a little more up-front, but in the long term they can save you  – and the planet – much more.

 

How to Apply


Application Process

1. Check the Eligibility Criteria

Review the Eligibility Criteria for your chosen rebate item.

To be eligible to receive a rebate, your sustainable product or service must have been purchased, installed or undertaken from 1 July 2024.

 

2. Purchase your Sustainable Product or Service 

Purchase your sustainable product or service from your chosen provider or installer. Ensure that your purchase meets the Eligibility Criteria for your chosen rebate item.

 

3. Submit an Application Form

Submit an Application Form and required attachements. Click 'Apply Now' to submit an application form.

 

4. Receive your Rebate

If your form is approved by the City of Canning, you will receive your rebate via electronic bank transfer from Rebately. Be sure to check your junk mailbox for your rebate approval email.

Terms and Conditions

GENERAL 

These terms and conditions apply to the City of Canning Rebates Program.

To apply for the rebate program, residents must complete an online application form via Rebately and read through the terms and conditions of this program.

By submitting an application for a rebate, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. If your application does not comply with these terms and conditions, it will not be valid and will not be accepted or assessed.

It is important to read these terms and conditions in conjunction with any relevant information provided by City of Canning (the City) in relation to the City of Canning Rebates Program.

The applicant must include all the attachments and required information in the application.

Rebate applications are to be submitted online. If an applicant does not have computer or mobile phone access, applications can be completed by a carer, family member or with customer service staff at the City’s Civic and Administration Centre. Please note copies of proof of purchase and residence will still need to be provided.  If you are unable to attend the Civic and Administration Centre please call on 1300 422 664 to make other arrangements.

Payment of a rebate is not guaranteed and is subject to the approval process and availability of rebate funding. In conjunction with the program partner Rebately, applicants will be advised in writing whether their rebate application has been successful.

The City, applicants and product providers will attempt in good faith to resolve via negotiations any dispute or claim arising out of or in relation to rebates and these guidelines.

The City reserves the right to change these terms and conditions or to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the City of Canning Rebates Program at any time.

 

APPLICANTS:

To be eligible to apply for a rebate an applicant must:

  • Be aged 18 years or over; and
  • Live within the City of Canning local government area

 

City staff and Elected Members are eligible to receive the Rebates if they comply with the Terms and Conditions. Applicants who are City staff or Elected Members, will be required to disclose this on their Application and will be subject to additional approval processes as per the Local Government Act. Applicants who are City staff or Elected Members cannot be involved in the assessment of their Application.

Rebates are available to households only. Eligible applicants include owner occupiers, tenants and landlords (solar only). Businesses are ineligible to participate currently but may be considered in the future. Residents within apartment blocks are ineligible to participate in the solar rebate but may be considered in the future.

 

ELIGIBLE PRODUCTS

Applicants may apply for a rebate for their purchase of the following products purchased on or after July 1st, 2024:

  • Solar photovoltaic (PV) array, provided by a New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC) Approved Seller, and installed by an installer accredited under Solar Accreditation Australia. The applicant property must not have an existing solar PV system installed.
  • Reusable Cloth Nappies and Accessories: Purchase or hire of reusable cloth and swim nappies, reusable inner liner for nappies, reusable wipes, pilchers, wet bags and reusable nursing breast pads.
  • Reusable Sanitary Items: Reusable sanitary pads and menstrual cups and discs, leak-proof swimwear and leak-proof underwear.
  • Reusable Incontinence Products: Reusable incontinence underwear.
  • Composting and Worm Farming Equipment: Compost bins, compost tumblers, aerators, waste fermentation systems including fermentation mix, worm farms, worm tubes and composting worms.
  • Repair Services: Repair services for furniture, electronic and household appliances, textiles and footwear. Excludes car, watch and jewellery repairs.

Both online and store-bought eligible items are covered under this rebate. However, any cost associated with postage or product delivery shall not be included in the amount of the awarded rebate.

Single-use, disposable or biodegradable nappies, sanitary items, and incontinence items are not eligible for a rebate. Commercial composting services or compostable packaging and bags are not eligible for a rebate.

 

APPLICATIONS

To apply for a rebate, applicants can visit the City’s websitewww.canning.wa.gov.au/ecorebates and complete the user-friendly online application form via the Rebately link provided. Applicants are required to upload the following documents to be eligible for a rebate:

 1. Proof of purchase(s):

Either:

A) Receipt(s) of proof of purchase(s) which includes:

  • Company name and/or ABN of the company the items were purchased from
  • Name of the customer and/or invoice number
  • Item name(s) (underline/highlight if multiple items on receipt)
  • Cost
  • Purchase date (must be on or after 1 July 2024)

OR:

B) Proof of purchase of second-hand item(s) in the form of the following:

  • Copy of correspondence between buyer and seller and
  • Copy of bank statement showing transaction (private details can be redacted)
  • Purchase date (must be on or after 1 July 2024)

AND

2. Proof of residence in the form of one of the following:

  • Utility bill from the past 12 months
  • Rates notice from the past 12 months
  • A current driver’s license

AND

3. For the solar photovoltaic array rebate only:

  • Applicants who are tenants must provide a letter of consent from the landlord.
  • Applicants claiming the concession rebate must provide evidence of a valid concession card.

The City will accept:

  • One rebate application per household per category
  • Eligible products purchased on or after July 1st, 2024.

 

 

REBATES

The City will review each application to determine eligibility for a rebate. Rebately will notify applicants of the outcome of their application via email within 5 to 10 business days of receiving a submission.

Successful applications will be reimbursed:

  • $500 for installation of an eligible solar PV array (or $700 for concession card holders)
  • 50% of the purchase price of eligible reusable cloths nappies with a maximum rebate of $100 for the purchase or hire of reusable cloth nappies and eligible accessories.
  • 50% of the purchase price of eligible reusable sanitary products with a maximum rebate of $50 for menstrual products.
  • 50% of the purchase price of eligible reusable incontinence products with a maximum rebate of $100 for incontinence underwear.
  • 50% of the purchase price of eligible composting products with a maximum rebate of $60 for worm farms, worm tubes, worms, waste fermentation systems, compost bins, tumblers and aerators.
  • 50% of the purchase price of eligible repair services with a maximum rebate of $100.

 

Payment of successful rebate applications will be made via electronic transfer to the applicant’s nominated bank account. Payment will be made within 4 weeks of notification of a successful application.

Once funding for the City of Canning Rebates Program is exhausted, the City will not provide any further rebates and will not accept new applications until the start of the following Financial Year.

 

DATA AND REPORTING

The City uses Rebately Pty Ltd, a managed service provider, to provide the rebates administration platform. The City will not share applicant information with any organisation other than Rebately, for the purposes of directly administering the application, assessment and awarding of the rebates.

Applicants must agree to the City using personal information submitted via the application for the purpose of evaluating eligibility to receive a rebate.

Applicants must agree to the City collecting data on the products for which Rebates are approved for purposes of reporting and performance of the City of Canning Rebates Program. This data will be anonymised and no identifying information will be reported.

All City held information will be stored on the City’s electronic records management system and is subject to Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009, Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and associated regulations. The City will not store any financial data but may store responses to surveys and contact information for feedback about the program.

LIABILITY

Applicants participate in the City of Canning Rebates Program of their own volition and at their own risk.

The City accepts no liability for any claim for loss, damage, harm or expenses which arise as a consequence of participation in the rebate program, purchase or installation or use of any products for which rebates are obtained, or use of electricity that is the subject of any products for which rebates are obtained.

Any issues which occur due to the purchasing of any products for which rebates are obtained must be resolved between the Applicant and the product provider based on the advertised warranties and standard service provision of the products involved.

Applicants are solely responsible for ensuring that any products for which rebates are obtained are maintained in a suitable working condition.
