Get rebates of up to $100
on sustainable products.
Round 4 is now open to ALL Penrith households! Claim a 50% rebate on the purchase of reusable nappies, reusable sanitary products (up to $100 per household), rechargeable batteries (up to $50 per household), and sustainable food storage containers (up to $50 per household), making it more affordable to go eco-friendly.
Reusable products may cost a little more up-front, but in the long term, they can save you more than $1,000 a year! Council rebates are provided to help reduce the upfront costs of reusable options, allowing you to reduce your waste in landfills by shifting from disposable, single-use products.
Reusable Cloth Nappies
Surprisingly, nappies and absorbent hygiene products are among the largest contributors to household waste in Penrith, with audits showing that by weight, these products make up 10% of the material collected through the red-lidded general waste bin.
Reusable Sanitary Wear
Did you know that the average person who has periods uses 10,000 – 12,000 disposable sanitary products in their lifetime?
Absorbent hygiene wastes are among the largest contributors to household waste in Penrith, making up 10% of the material collected through the red-lidded residual waste bin.
Rechargeable Batteries
Batteries are a big problem in our waste stream. They can’t be recycled in household recycling bins and are hazardous if not disposed of correctly.
Using rechargeable household batteries reduces the amount of single-use battery waste produced in households and the risks they pose to our waste management services and processing facilities.
Reusable Containers
When food scraps end up in landfills, they release methane gas, which can be more damaging to the environment than Carbon dioxide.
Storing food items correctly, in reusable glass or stainless-steel air-tight containers, can prevent it from spoiling and increase its shelf life so less food goes to waste.
